Southampton’s old archaeology museum has been transformed into a new arts space by A Space Arts with the support of a whole host of funders.

FINALLY! The city has been crying out for more art spaces, culture and a step away from the huge chains that fill our high street. While they have their place in Southampton, the city lacks balance – now is the time for more independents, retail and places for live music.

Take a look at this fantastic new addition to the city centre…

The media launch and official opening is this weekend and I can’t wait for it to open fully so I can see all the exhibitions and go to the top of the tower!

I love supporting local and I am over the moon for a fantastic new arts space not far from my home.

Keep an eye out for this beauty when you walk through the entrance – take a look up and to the left!

Art Exhibitions

Local artists, art created from the renovation and historic pieces directly relating to Southampton – there’s some pretty cool pieces that are on display in the new gallery spaces.

The Barker-Mill Collections Gallery is even temperature controlled to protect the integrity of older, more sensitive pieces.

You can look out from the temperature controlled gallery into the level below.

Transitions is a small art exhibition marking the renovation of the building – how cool is the door hanging over the beam?

Hoxton Bakehouse

Coffee and baked goods from Hoxton Bakehouse…bloody brilliant!

My favourite local coffee spot and art, um, er HELLO THIS IS ACE. When can I move in? 😂

I can’t wait to go and spend a slow Sunday morning here reading, eating and checking out the exhibitions. Dreamy.

Renovation

Renovation of an under utilised space into a space for arts, events and music has created a pretty incredible addition to the city.

I can’t wait to see some live music there, the low ceilings and neon art lights will give it a great feel with plenty of atmosphere.

Conservation

Everywhere you look there’s historic old walls, arched windows and little markers showing the timeline of the building. And, look up, the beautiful beamed ceiling is stunning!

By transforming and saving this building the supporters of this project have protected this building and a city’s story for future and existing generations to enjoy.

I’m certainly excited to head back when it’s fully open to head up the tower and see the other exhibitions when they open.
